Abstract

Description

A guide providing the values of the historic passenger license plates of the United States and Canada. Each state and province is presented through a table listing the year of issue of each license plate and a condition rating from 1 (mint) to 5 (fair). Values in U.S. Dollars are then noted for each year/condition combination for which the editor had data. Some combinations are left blank, such as mint examples of early plates, where there was insufficient data to draw conclusions on valuation. Remarks are provided for select years when specific materials, methods of validation, slogans, and other notable features were used. A final colmn notes if passenger license plates were issued as singles or pairs. A chart listing registration data from the first eight years of registration, and then every five years up to 1975 follows each jurisdiction's value chart, with some registration data appended at the end of the book. An introductory section reviews license plate identification, grading, the impact of pairs on value, slogans and materials used in license plate construction, and a table of abbreviations used in the book. After the valuation tables is a narrative section describing key points in the history of passenger license plates from each covered jurisdiction accompanied by black and white imagesof selected license plates. A concluding section provides a table of values for select optional , Bicentennial, motorcycle, dealer, handicapped, and personalized license plates. This is followed by discussion of the most significant passenger plates, and advice on the license plate collecting hobby. Sixth edition.
