Abstract

Description

Includes a brief discussion of the early years of Tennessee vehicle registration including the prestate period (beginning in 1905) and discussions of the state highway system, speed limits, drivers licenses, and the state police. Includes tables of registration statistics, a census of known Tennessee prestate license plates, a census of known 1915 license plates, and a list of nonpassenger plate types. The bulk of the book is given over to black and white illustrations of license plates organized by type with brief descriptive information such as prefix letters or color combinations for specific dates. Blank spaces are left for some types that presumably were not observed at the time of publication.
